Volunteer research positions

These roles support SSWEI's listening tour and research activities. Academic credit may be available. All volunteers receive TCPS 2 CORE ethics training and mentorship.

Research Lead (Volunteer)

Volunteer · 12–15 hrs/week4-month commitment

Lead qualitative research activities including listening tours, data analysis, and white paper development. Ideal for graduate students or early-career researchers in social sciences, public health, or related fields.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a social sciences, public health, or related graduate program
  • Interest in Black wellness equity, research ethics, and social justice
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Comfort with qualitative analysis tools (NVivo, Dedoose, or MAXQDA)

Research Assistant – Recruitment & Outreach (Volunteer)

Volunteer · 10–12 hrs/week4-month commitment

Support participant recruitment, community outreach, and relationship-building for SSWEI's listening tour and research activities.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in social sciences or related program (min GPA 3.0)
  • Interest in community engagement, Black wellness, and equity
  • Cultural awareness and strong interpersonal skills
  • Reliability and comfort with remote collaboration tools

Research Assistant – Data Analysis & Documentation (Volunteer)

  • Enrolled in social sciences or related program (min GPA 3.0)

About TCPS 2 CORE

The Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2) is Canada's standard for research ethics. All SSWEI research volunteers complete the free online CORE certification before beginning their role.

Future paid positions

As SSWEI grows and secures funding, we plan to create paid roles in research coordination, training facilitation, community engagement, and program administration. We are committed to compensating the expertise and labour that drives this work.
